Scanning technologies like Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are constantly seeking a balance between a high scanning resolution, radiation exposure and inconvenience caused to the patient. With the availability of high resolution scanning technology today, specialized software which is capable of supporting investigations by processing huge amounts of data becomes more necessary than ever before. The conventional scanning processes and systems provide the radiologist or the medical examiner only with a set of 2D images of thin "slices" of the scanned part, which the professional has to then reconstruct based on his experience and expertise. This process becomes time consuming, sometimes manual error prone, and limits the use of the scanned data. 3D medical visualization software has overcome this problem by providing the user with a 3D representation of the patient’s anatomy reconstructed from the raw scanned data.
